Thanks to all who helped and Congratulations to all those who participated!

Its Time For The 2007 Downtown Tulsa YMCA/St. John’s,

2nd Annual “Jeff Myer’s Challenge Indoor Triathlon,

January 19 & 20th

Read Below

The triathlon was started in 2006 by the family and friends of Jeff Myers to celebrate his “survival” of a plane crash that had taken place exactly one year earlier. Jeff spent 42 days in the Hospital at St. John’s recovering from that, and after 16 surgeries, he is back to participating in this triathlon! Jeff’s surgeons attribute his mere survival from his plane crash due to the fact that he was in relatively good athletic shape, and he attributes that to “working out at the Y” and his attempts (as he says) to “just make it to the finish line without stopping” in earlier triathlons! You can read more about the crash and see pictures on some of the other pages that are linked here.

The details on the event are simple. It is an indoor triathlon, which is a multi-event race that consists of a swim for a few laps in a pool, biking for a while on a stationary bike, and running around in circles on an indoor track! Even if you don’t want to do it all, you can be part of a team of friends and do one of the events and cheer each other on. Plus, all of you may turn out to really like it and be real “athletes”!

Friday evening on January 19th will be the team event. It can be male, female or mixed. Anyone over the age of 16 can participate as an adult. We even have a modified “kid triathlon” for the little ones. You can attack it seriously or just for fun! The object is to just make it to the end of your event! Saturday morning will be the individual event. If you are feeling really “pumped”, you can approach it seriously, or like Jeff, just “shoot for the finish line”!

This year the Challenge will be combined with another regular annual indoor triathlon due to the fact that St John’s Health Club, who normally also has one in January, is undergoing remodeling. They will be “teaming” with the YMCA on this one. We may have close to 200 participants from the regular St. John’s triathlon that jump in on the YMCA Challenge. Last year’s YMCA Challenge had over 60 “first-time” participants. This will be a great opportunity to see real triathletes in action and learn how to better your own fitness or event time!

So, it is time to start getting in shape to get yourself ready to participate in the January 2007 Downtown Tulsa YMCA/St. John’s “Jeff Myer’s Challenge Indoor Triathlon”! Mark your calendar for January 19th and 20th, 2007!!

Even if you are not talked into participating yet, we still have something for you! We need volunteers to help with the event. You can volunteer for help in fundraising, organization, helping “time” events, or help on the awards! The main object is to help promote the YMCA fitness causes. If you can help, call Kris Falvo at the Downtown Y office and she will get you lined up! We appreciate any help we can get to help make Tulsa, the YMCA and St. John’s health club great places to be!!
